This is my first ever blog for Bantams Banter. I’m writing it about Bradford Disability Football Club, and I’ll be reviewing monthly tournaments and league games etc.
We play in a league called the West Riding Ability Counts League. We have eight teams in total that play. I’m going to give you an insight of the games that have been played by us in each round.
League 1 - the top tier of the League.
Below is how the BDFC teams in this league stand going into the next set of league matches
Bradford DFC 1 – So far have played 11 games, won 9, drawn 1, and only lost 1 game, The goal difference between them and second placed Harrogate is only 2 points. BDFC 1 are currently top of the league by 5 points. This team is the BDFC equivalent of Chelsea football club. Their manager is Joe Brown ex Bradford City footballer so no wonder they’re at the top.
Bradford DFC 2 – So far have only played 9 games, winning 1,drawing 3 and unfortunately losing 5 which leaves them with only 6 points, so far this season. This is the second best BDFC team in the whole disability league, they have some top notch players, playing for them.
Their manager is the One the Only Mr Joe Bray – BDFC’s Special One
Bradford DFC 3 – So far have played 11, won 1, drawing 1 and losing 9 and they have only got 4 points this season and are sitting at the bottom of the table. These are the equivalent of Leicester City who are also sitting at the bottom of the Premier League. But I'm sure our lads can pull it back and finish above their rivals, unlike Leicester LOL! Mo Tariq is the manager of this team, who’s still talking about footballers from the 70’s.
League 2 – We also have 2 teams that play in this league.
Bradford DFC 1 – Have played 14, won 7, drawn 5 and lost 2 and they have got 26 points which leaves them sitting in 3rdplace at the moment. This is my team and one our star player is Martin Parr who gives 110% in his game either in training and matches, when it counts, just like anybody else at the club. This is a brilliant team which sticks by one and other.
Our manager is the one the only Mr Paul Jubb - he’s like the Alex Ferguson of BDFC; established and knows his team (and they are around the same age LOL.)
Bradford DFC 2 – Have played 13, won 4, drawn 6, lost 3 and they have got 18 points which currently puts this team in 6th place. The star player in this team is Callum McMahon, he’s a very tough tackler and when he shoots you defiantly know about it.
The manager for this team is the guy with a thousand onesies, the one the only Mick ‘Terry ‘Parkinson. Not to be confused with THE ONE AND ONLY PHIL PARKINSON J
League 3 – Our final 3 teams play here.
Bradford DFC 1 – Have so far played 16, won 3, drawn 4, lost 9 and have currently got 13 points.
These are currently sitting at the bottom of league 3 and looking to face relegation L
Their manager is Mark Lightowler, the Kenny Dalglish of BDFC.
Bradford DFC 2 – So far have played 16, won 9, drawn 3 and lost 4. They are currently top of league
Their manager is Ken Knights who is the Gordon Strachen of the club, wise and to the point.
Bradford DFC 3 – have played 16, won 7, drawn 3 and lost 6 they currently have 24 points only 6 points behind the leaders. This could be a 1st and 2nd place finish for BDFC this season.
Their manager is the founder of BDFC and who we are all thankful for Mr Paul ‘McCartney’ Squires.
This is the end of my first blog. Hope you’ve enjoyed it!
I’ll be back…(ha ha as Arnie says) in April to review the next round.
See you soon
