Me and Dom have been dabbling with a bit of betting recently, must be because we’re now middle aged. Couple this with the Cheltenham Festival being in full swing this week and people losing money left, right and centre it got me thinking; would you gamble on City going up? Even more; would you gamble on them getting in to the automatics?
As it stands with most bookies (I googled four) Sheff United are odds on to win the league. Bolton are favourite to gain promotion with Fleetwood a close second and Bradford taking up third favourite to go up automatically.
I imagine these odds are compiled by a few yuppies in central London using a clever algorithm OR they might have just looked at the league table and form guide. However they decided on these odds, I don’t like them, they are crap.
Bradford should be way out but currently stand at about 2 to 1 – so for every £1 you put on, you only get £2 back. For me we should be at least 8 to 1 outsiders. So many teams have games in hand on us and yeah we have good form but we just can’t get that 5 game winning streak under our belt (something Bolton and Fleetwood have done recently).
We also have a tough run in, Oxford and Sheff United two games to note. So the question should be, will we get that streak under our belt or will it be WDWWLDWD from now on in? If you think the streak is around the corner starting this weekend at Swindon then good on you but I still wouldn’t bet. If you think we’ll be drawing our way into the play offs then you’re the lucky one and will be way off putting a bet on.
This is where my money would go – Bradford to win in the play-off final, Charlie Wyke winner. Those odds are a lot more attractive and a lot more exciting. Plus you win either way (in theory), if we go up automatically you won’t give a chuff about that £50 and will be too busy downing Jaegers on North Parade/Rochdale high street to realise what’s going on!
I personally think we’ll get to the play-offs and go up. We don’t ever do thing’s the easy way, we do them the Bradford City way. Plus I have a wedding on the day of the play-off final, so obviously we’ll get to Wembley and I won’t be able to go. Don’t even get me started on this. I hope I’m wrong by the way, would love automatic promotion and a moody free wedding day.
